Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has taken a swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his administration’s handling of the economy, as Nigeria is now ranked among the hungriest countries in the world.
Obi, in a post on Monday via his X handle, reminded Nigerians of Tinubu’s 2022 campaign jibe in Delta State, where he mocked Obi for relying heavily on data and statistics, saying “Na statistics we go chop? All I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians.”
But Obi criticised President Tinubu saying disregarding the glaring messages in those statistics he peddled has now come to haunt the country.
“Almost two years into the Tinubu administration, millions of Nigerians can barely feed,” Obi said.
“Now, statistics show that Nigeria is one of the world’s hungriest nations, with citizens not knowing where their next meal will come from.”
The former Anambra State governor accused the Tinubu-led administration of peddling false hope and manipulating economic indicators in an attempt to obfuscate the country’s worsening living conditions.
“Today, Nigerians are being force-fed with inaccurate statistics—wrong unemployment numbers, misleading inflation figures, and now a suspicious GDP rebasing—all in an effort to paint a false picture of progress, while ordinary citizens groan under the weight of economic hardship,” he stated.
Obi emphasized that governance is not guesswork but a responsibility that demands “sincerity of purpose, character, competence, capacity, and compassion.”

In November 2022, while campaigning in Delta State, the then APC Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu, now the President, berated the other Presidential Candidate (Peter Obi), he was ashamed to call his name, saying “Na statistics we go chop all I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians”.
Now 2 years into his 4-year tenure, Nigeria is classified as one of the hungriest nations in the world with millions of Nigerians not knowing where their next meal will come from.
President Tinubu is now overfeeding Nigerians with wrong Statistics from wrong unemployment figures, wrong inflation figures, and now GDP rebasing, all to put a positive spin on our deteriorating economic and household conditions.
Governance is not a rocket science, it’s not a gamble, like I have always reiterated, it requires sincerity of purpose, character, competence, capacity and compassion.
