Renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has once again expressed unwavering support for former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, citing his personal integrity, leadership values, and commitment to national progress.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Monday, Adichie declined to speculate on the 2027 general elections, noting that it was premature to take a position without knowing the list of candidates. However, she made it clear that her admiration and backing for Peter Obi remain firmly rooted in his consistent character and vision for a better Nigeria.
“My support for Peter Obi is something that I do not hesitate to proclaim,” she said.
“It is rooted in my love for this country. It’s rooted in my belief that we can create a country where people feel included—a country that is not corrupt and does not tolerate corruption.”
Adichie described Obi as a rare type of leader whose interest in politics goes beyond personal ambition or ego, highlighting what she sees as his humility, curiosity, and accountability.
“He is one of the simplest men I have ever known,” she said.
“And he is genuine and consistent. The person I knew 15 years ago is still the same in terms of values. He wants to learn. He listens. And he has that humility that we so desperately lack in this country.”
She contrasted Obi’s leadership style with those of other political figures who, in her view, seek power for self-serving reasons.
“There are people desperate to become president not because they have good intentions, but because of their personal egos,” she noted.
“For Peter Obi, it has never been about him.”
Adichie also commended Obi’s sense of accountability and respect for public service, saying he does not expect accolades for simply doing his job.
Her comments come as political alliances begin to form ahead of the 2027 elections, with Obi recently entering into a coalition with other major opposition leaders. While she refrained from endorsing any specific ticket, Adichie’s remarks reaffirm her alignment with Obi’s political philosophy and her hopes for a more inclusive and transparent Nigeria.
