Member representing Ideato Federal Constituency in Imo State, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has announced that the N50 million target set for supporting families affected by the recent Arondizuogu massacre has been met and slightly exceeded.
During the attack, carried out by yet-to-be-apprehended gunmen, scores of innocent residents — including a couple and their domestic staff — were brutally killed.
In a statement issued Thursday by his Media Aide, Charles Okafor, Ugochinyere disclosed that the funds were contributed by friends and associates who responded to his appeal for assistance.
According to the statement, disbursement will soon commence to the bereaved families, including relatives of vigilante members who lost their lives in the incident.
Reaffirming his commitment to the welfare and security of his constituents, the lawmaker expressed gratitude to all who supported the initiative.
“The N50 million targeted donation which Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, Ideato Rep, sought from friends and associates to support families that lost loved ones to the activities of unknown gunmen has been achieved,” the statement read in part.
“The funds received have slightly exceeded the target. They will be used to support the victims’ families in welfare, education, and business ventures, including assistance to vigilantes in the affected communities. Preparations are ongoing for the public disbursement of the funds.
“Ikenga thanks his friends and associates for responding to the humanitarian call to support his people in this trying time. We also hope that the local and state governments will fulfill their duty by not only supporting the victims but also empowering community security in all Ideato communities to prevent a repeat of such bloody carnage.”
