The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has congratulated Zenith Bank Plc on its 35th anniversary, describing the financial institution as a model of visionary leadership, resilience, and service.
Obi, who joined eminent Nigerians and foreign dignitaries on Friday night at the bank’s 35th Anniversary and Chairman’s Dinner in Lagos, praised the founder and chairman, Dr. Jim Ovia, CFR, for his foresight in building Zenith Bank into Nigeria’s largest financial institution by Tier-1 capital for 16 consecutive years.
He noted that the bank’s phenomenal successes, as well as its strong reputation across Africa and in strategic global markets, were clear testaments to Ovia’s leadership.
The former Anambra State governor also lauded the bank’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, OON, who recently became the first female to occupy the position in Zenith Bank’s history.
According to Obi, Umeoji’s leadership marks “a new height” for the institution, adding that she remains “a gift to Zenith Bank.”
He further commended the bank for recognising its customers and staff, some of whom had been with the institution since its inception in 1990, stressing that such culture of loyalty and reward underscored Zenith’s commitment to excellence.
“Everything was about leadership, from the humble beginnings to heights unimagined,” Obi wrote in a post on his verified X handle on Saturday.
He congratulated Ovia, Umeoji, and the entire Zenith community for sustaining the vision that has kept the bank ahead of its peers for over three decades.
