Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has condemned the degrading treatment of a female youth corps member in Anambra State by members of the Udogachi vigilante outfit.
Reacting via his verified X handle on Tuesday, Obi described the incident, as an act of “primitive wickedness and savagery” that should have no place in a civilized society.
“As an Anambrian myself, I feel not only ashamed but also deeply heartbroken that such cruelty could happen in 2025, in a society that ought to have advanced beyond such barbarous acts,” Obi wrote.
He stressed that no society should ever tolerate the abuse, humiliation, and dehumanization of its citizens, particularly the vulnerable and women.
“That young girl could have been anyone’s daughter, sister, or even mine. What happened is not only a violation of law and morality, but also a direct assault on our collective humanity,” he added.
Obi called on security agencies and the Anambra State Government to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted, insisting that justice must be swift and decisive.
Beyond punishment, he urged the institution of stronger safeguards, policies, and communal values that protect the weak and restrain the powerful.
“Our humanity must always come first. Without it, we are nothing but a people adrift in cruelty,” Obi concluded.
