No fewer than one thousand tertiary education students in Anambra State have staged a peaceful match in solidarity and support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s government in the state.
The students hail from National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) and National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES). They were led by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council (JCC), Anambra State axis.
During their peaceful rally, the students countered calls by some governorship candidates for the disbandment of Udo Ga-Achi security outfit in the state.
The group, wielding placards with different inscriptions and chanting solidarity songs marched from Aroma junction to the state government office, now known as Light House, Awka.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Comrade Ifeanyichukwu Chukwuemerie, who is the NANS JCC Chairman, commended the governor for taking security as priority project in the state.
According to Chukwuemerie, the State security had successfully retired criminals, restored peace and order in Anambra State and should be encouraged to do more to improve the security of lives and property.
He said that with the security personnel in place, students currently sleep well, travel and move out even at nights without fear or attacks from criminals.
The students leaders also took turn to eulogise the State government for improving the quality of infrastructure development, recreation and others in Anambra and pledged to support Soludo’s re-election.
Speaking in an interview, a Special Assistant to governor Soludo on Students Affairs, Comrade Okoye Matthew Okpara, commended the students for showing solidarity to the government, which he said has improved their academic environment for effective teaching and learning through infrastructural development and security.
Addressing the students, Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, frowned at the way some politicians in the state call for disbandment of a security outfit that has brought succour to the people.
Ezeajughi commended the youths and students for their bold display of support, calling on them to join hands with the present government to ensure peace, security and continued development of the state.
