Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki
Leaders of opposition parties in Ebonyi State, including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Young People’s Party (YPP), and a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have held an inaugural coalition meeting in Abakaliki.
The meeting followed the rise of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a growing political force in the country.
Among the notable attendees were former Minister of State for Health and 2023 Labour Party governorship aspirant, Fidelis Nwankwo; former House of Representatives member and 2023 LP senatorial candidate, Linus Okorie; former PDP Chairman in the state, Silas Onu; 2023 YPP governorship candidate, Sunday Opoke; and former APGA Deputy National Secretary, Jerry Obasi, among others.
Addressing the large crowd, Okorie declared that the ADC would take power in 2027, stressing that the party’s mission was to work for the betterment of Nigerians through true democracy.
“We are out to fight for the betterment of Nigeria through democracy. We are not converging to step on anybody, castigate, or attack anybody. We are here to discuss how to come together and work with Nigerians to achieve what they truly want,” he said.
He added that coalition leaders had come from Abuja to engage stakeholders at the grassroots and seek their input.
“ADC will rule Nigeria by the grace of God and with the support of everyone. And that is true. It is not by abuse or attack but through the content of ideas, superior application of intellect, and a clear mission and vision, which our manifesto will demonstrate and implement,” he stated.
Okorie announced that a date would soon be fixed to officially unveil the ADC in Ebonyi State, urging party members and stakeholders to remain committed to securing victory in the 2027 general election.
In her remarks, the State Chairman of ADC, Jenifer Adibe, said the party was attracting mass support in Ebonyi because of its inclusive principles and commitment to good governance.
“The ADC is accountable. We are committed to transparency and good governance. We will ensure massive mobilization. ADC in Ebonyi State will deliver at least three million votes in the 2027 general election, and we are ready to achieve it,” she said.
