The Network of Book Clubs and Reading Culture Promoters (NBRP) has announced the date, venue, and programme of activities for its 5th National Conference on Reading and Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to hold on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Abuja.
Themed “Reading, A Unifying Factor,” the 2025 edition will bring together educationists, cultural leaders, policymakers, and advocates of literacy from across Nigeria to examine practical strategies for reviving the nation’s reading culture.
Distinguished Guests
Among the high-profile guests expected at the event are: Professor Udenta O Udenta, a specialist in African and comparative literature, cultural studies and aesthetic theory, and currently Professor of Cultural Studies and Creative Writing, and the Director General of African Writers Institute, Abuja.

The full-day programme begins at 8:30 am with arrival and registration and features a mix of keynote addresses, panel sessions, awards, and cultural showcases.

Welcome & Opening Addresses by NBRP President and distinguished guests
Keynote Address on the role of reading in nation-building to be delivered by Dr. Dominic Omokaro, immediate past president of the National Library Association (NLA)
Panel Sessions exploring themes such as Managing Public Libraries and Teaching Reading in Nigerian Schools
Awards Presentation honoring individuals and institutions advancing literacy
Cultural and Award Night featuring book readings, cultural performances, open-mic sessions, and networking.
The AGM component, reserved for accredited NBRP members, will include presentations of reports, discussions on the upcoming 2026 and 2027 Book City initiatives, and the election and inauguration of a new executive committee.
