The Catch Them Young Community Initiative (CATYCOI) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other stakeholders to make the forthcoming Anambra governorship election youth-friendly and inclusive.
The group stressed that empowering young voters is essential for credible and sustainable elections, noting that the future of the state and the country’s democracy depends on active youth participation.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Nonso Orakwe, CATYCOI urged electoral and security authorities to adopt proactive measures that will boost youth involvement and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process ahead of the November 8, 2025 poll.
Orakwe identified voter apathy, insecurity, disinformation, logistical challenges, and political exclusion as major factors discouraging young people from participating in elections.
He noted that youths, who make up the largest demographic in Anambra and Nigeria, have the power to shape governance and drive development.
“Empowering young voters is not just a civic duty but a democratic necessity,” Orakwe said.
“The future of Anambra and Nigeria’s democracy depends on the active participation of its youth. When young people are informed, included, and protected, the credibility of the entire electoral process is strengthened. We cannot continue to treat youth participation as an afterthought—it must be central to electoral planning and implementation.”
He urged INEC to expand youth-focused voter education through innovative and accessible channels such as social media, schools, faith-based institutions, and community town halls.
CATYCOI also recommended stronger collaboration with youth-led organizations, improved logistical access, and greater transparency and accountability.
The group further tasked security agencies with ensuring neutrality and the safety of voters, preventing violence and intimidation, and building public confidence through open communication before and during the election.
