The wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has inaugurated an ultra-modern health centre and the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) Kaduna Study Centre in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The two facilities were among the series of projects commissioned during the grand finale of the second-year-in-office celebration and project inauguration of Hon. Eze Nwachukwu Eze, the member representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Nwifuru commended Hon. Eze for his commitment to improving the welfare of his constituents through impactful and people-oriented projects.
She noted that the newly constructed health centre would help end years of preventable deaths in the area caused by the activities of unqualified medical practitioners.
“I thank Hon. Eze Nwachukwu for his passion to construct this health centre, which will put an end to the avoidable deaths recorded in the area due to the activities of quacks.
“I believe the bitter experience of the people of Mgbo in the hands of quacks will now become a thing of the past, as this facility is equipped with modern medical equipment and consumables for effective healthcare delivery,” she said.
Mrs. Nwifuru also commended the establishment of the NTI Study Centre in Ohaukwu, describing it as a major step toward expanding access to tertiary education, especially for young women.
“The movement of the NTI Kaduna Study Centre to the local government will enable our people, particularly young girls, to access tertiary education easily and build meaningful careers. Education remains a strong weapon against poverty and social ills,” she added.
Addressing women of the constituency, the governor’s wife urged them to remain resilient and focused. She assured them that her office, through her pet project — the Better Rural Women Organization (BERWO) — would continue to champion the welfare and empowerment of women and children across the state.
The event also featured the distribution of relief materials by Hon. Eze through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). Items distributed included 25kg bags of rice, cartons of noodles, sachets of salt, and cartons of tomato paste, among others.
Mrs. Nwifuru described the projects and donations as a reflection of responsive and people-centered leadership aimed at improving healthcare, education, and the general well-being of the people. She encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the facilities and maintain them for the benefit of future generations.
Responding, Hon. Nwachukwu said the hospital, located at Ekwashi Ngbo, was built to promote peaceful coexistence between the Ngbo and Agila communities, which had been locked in a decades-long boundary dispute that was recently resolved through the efforts of stakeholders, including the Benue and Ebonyi State Governments.
He pledged to continue delivering more life-changing projects to improve the lives of his constituents.
