The Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sanction any official found guilty of malpractice during Saturday’s Anambra governorship election.
Head of CTA’s Expert Team, Prof. Alex Asigbo, made the call on Friday at a pre-election briefing in Awka, commending INEC’s past disciplinary actions but stressing the need for stronger accountability.
“Integrity should be the watchword for INEC staff. Ndi Anambra expect nothing less,” he said.
Asigbo said CTA has deployed 50 trained observers across the 21 local government areas to provide real-time reports from polling units.
He identified Orumba South, Ihiala, and Ogbaru as potential flashpoints and called for closer collaboration among security agencies to ensure safety throughout the exercise.
Asigbo also urged voters to shun vote buying, fake news, and violence, and to turn out en masse to make their votes count.
CTA Executive Director, Faith Nwadishi, expressed concern that only six of the 16 registered political parties were present during the distribution of sensitive materials at the CBN, Awka.
She said CTA would monitor the conduct and financial activities of political parties and agents to promote transparency and uphold democratic integrity.
