The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has engaged table water and bread producers in Enugu State in a sensitisation programme aimed at ensuring the production of safe and high-quality products across the South-East.
Director of NAFDAC, South-East Zone, Dr. Festus Ukadike, stated this on Tuesday in Enugu while addressing participants at the NAFDAC Stakeholders’ Sensitisation for Producers of Table/Packaged Water and Bread Products.
Ukadike noted that although the agency had over the years made significant progress in sanitising the water and bread production sectors, there was still more work to be done.
“The table water industry and baked goods sector are vital parts of our economy, and it is essential that we work together to ensure that the products being sold to consumers are safe and of high quality.
“Today, we will be discussing key issues affecting the table water and food industry, including regulatory compliance, process flow, sanitation and hygiene requirements, as well as quality control, good documentation and best practices,” he said.
He commended the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) and bakers’ associations for their participation, noting that their collaboration was crucial to improving quality standards and promoting better health for Nigerians.
“Your participation is vital to the success of this engagement, and I am confident that your contributions will help shape the future of the food industry in Nigeria,” he added.
Ukadike also warned that NAFDAC would not hesitate to sanction those who violate regulatory provisions or obstruct its officers in the discharge of their duties.
Chairman of ATWAP, Enugu State Chapter, Mr. Tony Edike, praised NAFDAC for organising the sensitisation programme, describing the agency as a reliable guide and partner in progress. He affirmed that members of ATWAP in the state had consistently maintained standards while working closely with NAFDAC to ensure consumers get the best.
“This forum will also provide an avenue for members to address peculiar challenges in Enugu State and receive feedback from the agency,” Edike said.
Similarly, Chairman of the Supreme Bakers and Confectioners Association, Enugu, Mr. Sunday Akam, thanked NAFDAC for its continuous engagement with stakeholders.
“Our association will continue to work in partnership with NAFDAC and ensure our members comply fully with all regulatory requirements,” he assured.
The sensitisation featured presentations on “Overview of Premises, Personnel, Process Flow, Sanitation and Hygiene Requirements in a Water Facility or Bakery,”
“Good Documentation Practice,” and the “NAFDAC e-Registration Process.”
