Ben Ezechime, Enugu
Stakeholders in Enugu North Senatorial District have expressed deep grief over the death of Sen. Okechukwu Ezea, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the zone.
Ezea, who represented Enugu North in the Senate, won the 2023 election on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) after three previous unsuccessful attempts to govern Enugu State. He died on the night of Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, after a brief illness. He hailed from Itchi community in Igboeze North Local Government Area.
Retired Maj.-Gen. Chris Eze described the late lawmaker as “the quintessence of principle” and “the most vocal and consistent defender of Nsukka interest.”
“The news of his passing came as a rude shock, but I had to accept it. The Book of Job says the Lord gives and the Lord takes; under all circumstances, we must give thanks to Him,” he said.
He commended Ezea for resisting pressure to defect from the Labour Party, noting that doing otherwise would have “damaged his legacy beyond repair.”
“By resisting that pressure, he cemented his name among the principled men and women who died fighting for Nsukka’s cause. Nsukka nation will never forget him,” Eze added.
A political associate, Chief Steve Odo, also mourned the late senator, describing him as a man who lived and died for his people.
“He was a great man. He loved anything Nsukka and was ready to die to protect the interest of his people. A great loss indeed. May his soul rest in peace,” Odo said.
Former LP Publicity Secretary in Enugu State, Mr. Onuorah Odoh, said Ezea’s death was “a monumental loss,” noting that he proudly identified with Nsukka everywhere he went, even adopting the nickname Ideke Nsukka Arumona.
Odoh, a lawyer and rights activist, said it would be difficult to fill the vacuum created by Ezea’s death.
Stakeholders across the district continue to eulogize the late senator, describing his passing as a painful loss to Enugu State and the nation.
