Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, convicted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, on all the seven counts of terrorism charge preferred against him by the Federal Government.
He was found guilty of all the seven counts. On count one the court said it was satisfied that Kanu made series of broadcasts to incite violence and killings, in furtherance of his separatist agitation for Biafra.
Omotosho based his decision on what he described as “uncontroverted evidence” that was adduced before the court by the prosecution.
Reacting to the judgment, the prosecuting counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo SAN, urged the court to impose maximum sentence of death penalty regarding to counts 1,2,4,5 and 6 and a minimum of 20 years imprisonment for count 3, and 5 years for count 7.
However, Honorable Obi Aguocha a member of the House of Representatives who is Kanu’s direct representative said while he doesn’t not know whether Kanu would appeal the conviction, however, pleaded for clemency of his behalf.
Meanwhile the Judge retired his chambers until 3:50 pm when he will read the sentence.
