A civic group, Abia Patriots, has cautioned chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State against what it described as a “destructive approach to opposition politics.”
The group, led by the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Legal Matters, Monday Ubani, SAN, expressed displeasure over the combative posture of some APC leaders — particularly the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and former Commissioner for Finance, Obinna Oriaku — toward the state government.
Abia Patriots, a non-partisan body committed to promoting good governance and accountability, warned that opposition politics pursued at the expense of public interest is counterproductive.
It advised APC leaders in the state to eschew politics of bitterness and adopt a more constructive and development-oriented approach.
In a statement signed by Ubani, the group said: “Their actions and statements are not only divisive but also detrimental to the progress of Abia State.”
The statement urged the leaders to rethink their strategy and focus on issue-based criticism that would benefit the people of the state.
Regretting that recent rhetoric from some opposition figures has been marked by personal attacks, inflammatory remarks, and a lack of alternative policy ideas, the group stated: “This is not the kind of opposition politics we need in Abia State. We need politicians who are committed to working together, listening to the people, and prioritizing the welfare of our state.”
Abia Patriots called on all stakeholders to join in promoting a more constructive and inclusive political culture in the state.
“We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to build a state driven by good governance, accountability, and unity,” Ubani added.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for good governance and urged citizens to support efforts geared toward ensuring accountability and sustainable development in Abia State.
