Thirty-eight worshippers abducted during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have regained their freedom after days of coordinated security operations.
According to a statement by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, announced the development on Sunday, commending President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a “hands-on and decisive” leadership that made the rescue possible.
According to the Governor, the abductees were freed on Sunday, November 23, following sustained efforts by security agencies and government negotiators. He said the intervention of President Tinubu was instrumental to the outcome, noting that the President personally supervised the response process.
AbdulRazaq disclosed that President Tinubu had even cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to attend to the security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States. He added that the President also ordered reinforced deployments to the state, including four new tactical police teams.
“The freedom of our people is wholly due to the President’s hands-on approach and unwavering commitment to the safety of Nigerians,” the Governor said.
He expressed gratitude to the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force for their roles in the rescue effort.
The Governor also thanked community leaders, religious groups, and Kwarans at large for their support since the incident.
