Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has formally announced his defection to the Accord Party, declaring the platform as his new political home ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Speaking in Osogbo on Tuesday during the public unveiling of the party, Governor Adeleke revealed that he had quietly joined the Accord Party over a month ago — on November 6, 2025 — after extensive consultations with political stakeholders, community leaders, and opinion shapers across the state.
“Today, we unveiled the Accord Party, our new platform for the good people of Osun State,” Adeleke said, noting that the decision was driven by the desire to complete his administration’s ongoing reforms and delivery of democratic dividends.
“I joined the Accord Party as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision.”
The governor said his move was guided by ideological alignment, describing the Accord Party as a welfarist political organisation whose values closely mirror his administration’s priorities.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare. Since I joined, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party,” he said.
“The primary essence of a government is the welfare and well-being of the people.”
Adeleke also welcomed the Accord Party’s national leadership to Osun, assuring them of unity and cooperation as the state chapter prepares for the 2026 polls.
“You are now part of us as I am now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large,” he said.
He urged party members to maintain a united front, stressing the need for inclusive leadership that accommodates diverse interests within the state.
“Our party, Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state,” the governor declared.
The unveiling ceremony drew party faithful, political associates, and supporters from across Osun West, Osun Central, and Osun East, signalling the beginning of what is expected to be an intense build-up to the 2026 governorship contest.
Recall that Governor Adeleke had resigned his membership of the PDP a week ago, less than 24 hours to the Party’s governorship primary election in Osun State.
