The outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, has commended the university’s women for their unwavering support to his administration.
Speaking at the 2025 Christmas and farewell party of the MOUAU Women Association (MOUAUWA), Prof. Iwe described the group as a strong pillar of support and a valuable asset to the institution. He noted that unity among staff remains one of his most cherished achievements, stressing that progress is impossible where divisions persist.
“I’m glad I have achieved unity in this institution. We now work together as one family, and I pray it will be sustained. Our progress depends on remaining united and peaceful,” he said.
Unveiling the maiden edition of MOUAUWA’s legacy magazine, the VC encouraged staff to embrace writing as a means of preserving ideas and achievements. He said the publication would serve as an important record of the association’s contributions to the university.
Prof. Iwe also urged the university community to spread love in the spirit of Christmas.
In her remarks, the VC’s wife and President of MOUAUWA, Dr. Nkechinyere Iwe, appreciated the women for their steadfast support, describing it as the backbone of her achievements.
“Together we navigated challenges, embraced opportunities, and delivered results,” she said.
She highlighted key accomplishments of her tenure, including the completion of MOUAUWA’s acquisition centre, procurement of a Hummer bus, rehabilitation of the Creche and Day-Care Centre, and the construction of a mini shopping mall.
Director of the Centre for Gender, Youth and Child Development and Chair of MOUAUWA’s Project Committee, Prof. Marble Onwuka, praised Dr. Iwe’s leadership, describing her tenure as impactful and memorable.
The colourful event featured dance and merriment by university women.
