The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has condemned the arrest of former Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chris Ngige, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing the action as a “loose and dishonourable approach” to handling corruption cases.
In a press statement issued by its leader, Uchenna Madu, MASSOB said the EFCC’s alleged insensitivity was further deepening Nigeria’s negative image in the international community.
The group accused the anti-graft agency of turning a blind eye to what it described as the “gross looting and embezzlement” of the nation’s economy by those it referred to as “their masters” currently piloting the affairs of the country.
According to MASSOB, the EFCC failed to establish whether companies awarded contracts by Dr Ngige actually executed the said projects.
The group also linked Ngige’s arrest to what it claimed was fear over the 2027 presidential ambition of former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi.
