President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace peace, religious tolerance, and unity as Christians across the country celebrate Christmas, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to safeguarding freedom of worship and national stability.
In his 2025 Christmas goodwill message released on Wednesday, the President called on citizens to reflect on the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ and His message of grace, hope, peace, and goodwill to humanity.
“Beyond the celebration and festivities of this season, Christmas reminds us to reflect on the significance of Jesus Christ’s birth and his message of salvation as the Prince of Peace,” Tinubu said, wishing Christians in Nigeria and around the world a Merry Christmas.
The President thanked God for the opportunity to serve the nation and offered prayers for peace, particularly among Nigerians of different religious beliefs. He reiterated his resolve to uphold religious freedom and protect all faith communities from violence.
“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence,” he stated.
Tinubu also acknowledged the contributions of Christians to Nigeria’s development, noting that the teachings of Christ have inspired many to care for the vulnerable and promote harmony in their communities. He paid tribute to individuals and groups working to foster peace, tolerance, and compassion across the country.
Reflecting on national challenges, the President reassured Nigerians of his administration’s continued focus on security, unity, and stability, a commitment he said has remained firm since he assumed office in 2023.
“All Nigerians have the right to live, worship, and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity,” Tinubu said, stressing that no citizen should suffer persecution on the basis of faith, ethnicity, or belief.
The President revealed that his government has maintained ongoing engagements with leaders of Nigeria’s major faiths to address concerns around insecurity and religious intolerance. He said these discussions would be strengthened to promote peaceful coexistence and prevent conflict.
As Nigerians travel during the festive season, Tinubu urged motorists and commuters to exercise patience and discipline on the roads, wishing travellers safe journeys and safe returns.
Expressing confidence in “divine providence and our collective strength,” the President said Nigeria would continue on the path toward becoming a nation future generations can be proud of.
