Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has once again demonstrated his thoughtful leadership style as he paid a Christmas visit to the former First Lady of the old Imo State and wife of the late legendary statesman, Chief Sam Mbakwe, Mrs. Victoria Ahuikpeghe Mbakwe, at her residence in Avutu-Obowo, Imo State. The visit also coincided with Mrs. Mbakwe’s birthday.
Governor Otti who was accompanied by a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, and one of his commissioners, used the opportunity to deliver some gift items given to the former First Lady of old Imo State, by his wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti.
The governor also thanked God for preserving Mrs. Mbakwe in good health and cheerfully remarked that she still looked as youthful as a teenager, despite her age.
A visibly elated and emotional Mrs. Mbakwe expressed deep appreciation for the governor’s visit and kindness. She thanked Governor Otti for the numerous forms of support he has consistently provided over time, much of which, she noted, had been rendered quietly and outside public view, beyond the two official visits he has made since assuming office.
“I don’t even know where to begin to thank God for you and your government,” she said.
“You have been so good. Let me tell all my people gathered here that the Governor has been very good to us. He has been taking care of us — not just this public visit you are seeing — but privately as well.”
While acknowledging that others had also supported her and her family at different times, Mrs. Mbakwe singled out Governors Alex Otti and Hope Uzodimma for their consistent and largely private support.
She added that her happiness was not based solely on the personal assistance she had received, but also on the remarkable progress and achievements she has continued to hear about under Governor Otti’s administration in Abia State.
Describing Governor Otti as a leader who understands the true essence of governance, she said he is doing the work of God by bringing happiness, relief, and hope to the people.
Mrs. Mbakwe assured the governor of her prayers, continued support and goodwill, noting that others would stand by him when it is his turn to serve as a former governor.
