Ben Ezechime, Enugu
Former Governor of the old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, has pledged his support for the presidential ambition of Mr. Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election.
Nwobodo made this known on Tuesday when he received Obi at his ancestral home in Amechi-Uno, Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to him, Obi is not only well qualified but also widely accepted among Nigerians.
He expressed happiness over the visit, noting that he had known Obi during his tenure as governor, and added that, by God’s will, Obi’s ambition would be achieved.
Obi was accompanied by former Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator Sam Egwu; and former Senators Ben Ndi Obi and Gil Nnaji.
“I feel great and thank God for this visit because it is a mark of respect, which is what we are known for—respect for elders,” Nwobodo said.
“I pray that God will make things easy for him. I have known Obi since he was governor. By God’s will, whatever he asks of God, God will grant him. I know that he is highly qualified and widely accepted.”
Expressing concern over the state of the nation, Nwobodo lamented that Nigeria’s founding father, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik), would be displeased with current developments in the country.
“Zik would be angry in his grave that what he fought for is not what we are seeing today,” he said.
Speaking earlier, Obi explained that the visit was strictly to extend New Year greetings and goodwill to Nwobodo as an elder statesman and leader.
“We came strictly to wish our dear leader a happy New Year. This is not the first time we have visited. We may come back for politics and seek his blessings,” Obi said, stressing that the visit was not for political purposes but out of respect and conviviality.
Also speaking on behalf of the delegation, former Senator Ben Obi reiterated that the visit was non-political and intended solely to wish Nwobodo a happy New Year.
He explained that the group had initially planned to visit on December 26, 2025, but rescheduled the visit to January 6, 2026, due to Nwobodo’s absence at the time.
