APC e-registration: Mbah targets 2m membership in Enugu

    EditorBy EditorJanuary 9, 2026No Comments3 Mins Read

    Ben Ezechime, Enugu

The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state is targeting about two million members in the ongoing online registration exercise.

Mbah stated this while flagging off the APC e-registration exercise for Enugu State at his ward in Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area.

According to the governor, the era of fragmented politics that denied Enugu State the benefits of being aligned with the centre is over. He described the registration exercise as a defining moment in consolidating the movement from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

“It was barely two and a half months ago that we chose partnership and progress, and decided to stop being on the sidelines,” Mbah said.

“The time we played fragmented politics is over. We no longer want to be on the sidelines; we want to be at the centre and play dominant politics. This requires that we support the politics at the centre.”

He said the party had set a target of registering a minimum of two million members across the state.

“We have work to do to ensure that the banner of our political party is entrenched in our various homes, not just in our communities. This is to ensure that our people are not confused and know where we stand at the centre, state, and local government levels,” he said.

“We are APC in the morning, APC in the afternoon, and APC at night.”

Mbah explained that the movement from the PDP to the APC in October 2025 was not intended to displace existing members but to strengthen the party.

“We have not come to displace those who were already in the house. We have come to co-mingle and increase our numbers. At the end of the day, it is the people we are doing politics with, not inanimate objects,” he said.

He urged party agents, supervisors, and coordinators to ensure discipline, transparency, and inclusiveness throughout the registration process.

The governor further assured supporters that President Bola Tinubu’s programmes would increasingly impact grassroots communities.

He cited the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, which he said is designed to directly empower over 8.8 million Nigerians and indirectly benefit about 40 million people.

“If we are concerned about when macroeconomic stabilisation will trickle down to the grassroots, the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme is the answer because it will have a direct impact on our people and lift them out of poverty,” Mbah said.

In separate remarks, the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, and the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said the e-registration exercise was aimed at digitising the party’s database to meet modern political realities.

Eneukwu said the exercise marked a departure from outdated practices.

“The party has conducted registrations before, but this time we are embracing technology, just as Governor Mbah has done with Smart Schools and other innovations in Enugu,” he said.

“The e-registration reflects our decision to embrace the modern world, where everything is going digital. Politics is about power, and registration helps us determine the number of people who have the capacity to vote, especially as registrants are required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN).”
