The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has ruled out any immediate discussion on a contract extension for Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle.
NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, made this known on Monday while responding to questions about the future of the Franco-Malian tactician with the national team.
According to Gusau, Chelle is still only halfway through the two-year contract he signed with the federation in January 2025, making talks of renewal premature.
“There will be no contract extension discussion with Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles head coach, for now,” Gusau said. “We signed a two-year deal with him in January 2025. He is only halfway through his contract. In the last six months of his current deal, we can start to look at things,” the NFF boss was quoted as saying.
Chelle was appointed as Super Eagles coach in January 2025 as part of the NFF’s efforts to stabilise the team and build continuity ahead of major international competitions.
The NFF president’s clarification appears aimed at addressing growing speculation around Chelle’s future, following the team’s recent performances especially at the just concluded African Nations Cup (AFCON 2025), and public interest in the technical direction of the national side.
For now, the federation insists its focus remains on allowing the coach to see out his current mandate, with any decision on his future to be considered at the appropriate time.
