The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed as false and malicious a publication attributed to former Ekiti State Governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose, alleging secret political dealings involving Atiku and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, described the report titled “Between Atiku and Makinde, Untold Story of What Happened in Minna Yesterday” as a “reckless and malicious fabrication” devoid of any factual basis.
Shaibu stated that Atiku was not involved in any form of political negotiations as claimed in the publication, stressing that there were no discussions on vice-presidential tickets, no ₦10 billion financial contributions, no zoning arrangements, no delegate guarantees, and no alleged clandestine meetings in Dubai.
“The entire publication is a shameless concoction — a tissue of lies stitched together by a serial purveyor of political gossip,” the statement said, adding that the attempt to draw other political actors into the narrative only exposed what it described as the desperation behind the claims.
According to the Atiku camp, the former vice president’s political engagements remain “broad-based, principled, and national in scope,” and not driven by the “transactional theatrics” alleged in the report.
Shaibu further described the story as “insider fiction” designed to mislead the public, distract attention, and provoke controversy, insisting that Atiku does not engage in politics through secrecy, bribery, or backroom deals.
“It is unfortunate that individuals who have lost credibility now seek relevance by inventing tales around serious national figures,” the statement added.
The Atiku camp urged members of the public to disregard the publication, advising that it be treated “with the contempt it deserves.”
