The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday rejected allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) linking it to a reported gun attacks on ADC members, including former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, former EDO State governor, John Odigie-Oyegun and others in Edo State, describing the claims as “delusional” and baseless.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said the opposition party was “its own nemesis” and accused it of attempting to weaponise the incident for political sympathy.
The ADC had, in a press statement dated February 25, 2026, accused the ruling party of being responsible for the shooting incident. But the APC faulted the allegation, saying it was made before the conclusion of any investigation by security agencies.
“Accusing the APC even before any investigation is carried out by law enforcement is particularly senseless and shows the ADC as a party that lacks focus and regard for due process of law,” the statement read.
“By its baseless conclusion, the party has declared itself the accuser, investigator, prosecutor and judge in its own cause.”
The ruling party also condemned the reported shooting, stressing that violence had no place in Nigeria’s political space. It called on the police and other law enforcement authorities to conduct an expeditious investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
While distancing itself from the incident, the APC urged security agencies to scrutinise the ADC, its leaders and members as part of the probe, alleging that the party was plagued by internal leadership and factional disputes.
The APC further described as “reckless and unjustifiable” the ADC’s reference to alleged “acts of terrorism by the ruling APC,” arguing that such remarks trivialised the country’s ongoing security challenges and the sacrifices of security personnel combating insurgency and other threats.
Reaffirming its innocence, the party said it had “absolutely no role or responsibility” in the Edo shooting, adding that it was focused on consolidating what it described as recent electoral victories in the Federal Capital Territory municipal elections and constituency polls in Rivers and Kano states.
The party expressed appreciation to voters in the FCT, Kano and Rivers states for what it termed a vote of confidence in its leadership and in President Bola Tinubu.
It added that the APC and the President remained committed to building “a stronger, more resilient and prosperous country for the good of all Nigerians.”
