Dr Benjamin Nwoye on Friday night emerged as the National Deputy Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s national convention held at Eagle Square, Abuja.
He replaces Chief Emma Eneukwu, also from Enugu State, who previously held the position.
Nwoye’s emergence followed a consensus arrangement, reportedly backed by Governor Peter Mbah.
Addressing delegates, Nwoye said his tenure would prioritise strengthening internal party democracy and ensuring that the party’s foundation remains rooted in its members rather than its elites.
He also advocated the creation of a “Women and Youth Empowerment Desk,” aimed at providing direct support and amplifying the voices of grassroots members who have traditionally felt sidelined.
“The APC must continue to be broad enough to accommodate diversity,” he said.
Dr Nwoye holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois, USA, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Illinois, Chicago.
