The promise of a Third Force got a big boost on Monday as the former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, emerged as the presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2023 general election.
This followed the stepping down of renowned political economist and the leading light of the Third Force, a political coalition being galvanized to give Nigerians a better alternative to the two main political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The presidential bid of Mr Peter Obi received a boost earlier as the co-convener of the National Consultative Front (NCFront), Pat Utomi, voluntarily stepped down for the former Governor of Anambra State.
Utomi said he decided to step down for Obi to emerge as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, to enable him to actualise his presidential dream.
Professor Utomi announced his decision during the national convention of the party in Delta State.
There was eruption of joy when Obi and his entourage arrived at the convention venue.
Obi only a week ago dropped out of the PDP presidential race and resigned his membership of the party claiming that his character and integrity do not subscribe to what was going on in the PDP.
“It is better to lose doing the right thing than to win doing the wrong thing”, Obi had said after his resignation from the PDP.
