Worried by the rising wave of insecurity and senseless killings in the South-East, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has appealed for the restoration of “peace in Biafraland.”
Kanu spoke in Abuja Tuesday when he was brought to the Federal High Court to continue his treason trial by the Federal Government.
He declared that he wants “Biafraland to be calm and peaceful.”
The IPOB Leader said that killings and violence in Biafra land has to stop immediately.
He noted that he was passing through persecution because of his fight to secure a good life for Biafrans, wondering why there will be killings in the land.
According to him: “I want Biafraland to be calm and peaceful; calm and very, very peaceful! We are fighting to defend our people not to kill them. We are fighting to defend them that’s why I’m here, and we will continue to do so until we get victory.”
There have been cases of senseless killings in parts of the South-East perpetuated by hoodlums often referred to as unknown gunmen.
Security agencies have also always pointed accusing fingers at IPOB members and the operatives of Eastern Security Network, ESN.
But IPOB has consistently denied any involvements with the killings.
The pro-Biafra movement has also absolved ESN of any culpability, claiming that security agencies are sponsoring the perpetrators to blackmail and demonise IPOB to possibly use it as a justification to persuade the international community to proscribe it as a terrorist organisation.
IPOB Insists that the movement has not changed its non-violence approach towards Biafra restoration.
Despite the formation of Ebubeagu security outfit by the South-East governors, killings and kidnaping for ransom have continued unabated in various communities in the zone.
