As reactions trail the decision of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to nominate former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate, Senator Emma Nwaka, has described the decision as the height of insensitivity.
Senator Nwaka who represented Abia North in the third Republic, said that with the decision, the APC had derailed from the presidential race, arguing that the contest is now between Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; and Peter Obi of Labour Party.
According to him, “I dare say that BAT’s pairing with a fellow Moslem for the presidency has upturned his ambition for good.
“For me, it’s the height of insensitivity and hubris personified. It shows they’re not moving with the times.
“The Abiola/Kingigbe era cannot be re-enacted in Nigeria ever again, not in a country polarised like never by the obnoxious Buhari administration.
“For me, it’s now a two horse race: Atiku vs Obi.
“Nigeria completely lost her innocence or what was left of it under Buhari.
“It’s the saying of my people that special tactics is required to lift a woman with a broken waist. Nigeria is broken; we need tact, diplomacy and a deep sense of balance to heal it.”
Speaking with Ikengaonline, the Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Abia State, Apostle Emmanuel Agomuo, said the choice was Tinubu’s private business.
He said Nigerian would make their decision at the poll, adding that he fully stands by the position of the national leadership of CAN which has earlier rejected the choice of Muslim/Muslim ticket.
He said that a joint ticket by Muslims would not fly in Nigeria for now, and would be resisted.
“They have different plans but God will settle Nigeria. We are looking unto God, and they cannot succeed in their agenda.”
