The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, has been declared winner of the Osun gubernatorial election conducted yesterday (Saturday) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP candidate who obtained the majority votes scored 403,371 defeated his closest rival, the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola who scored 375,027.
The declared results showed that Adeleke won in 17 of the 30 local governments in Osun State while the governor won in 13 LGAs.
The Local Governments won by APC are Boripe, Ilesa East, Ayedire, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Ayedaade, Iwo, Olaoluwa, Isokan, Atakumosa East, Ife South, Ife Central and Ife East.
The PDP won Ede North Local Government, Ede South, Ifelodun, Boluwaduro, Egbedore, Odo Otin, Osogbo, Ila, Atakumosa West, Olorunda, Ilesa West, Obokun, Oriade, Orolu, Ife North, Irepodun and Ejigbo.
Unlike in the previous election four years ago, INEC through the Returning Officer for the election, Toyin Ogundipe, declared Adeleke of the PDP winner having satisfied all the requirements of the law and returned him elected as governor of Osun State.
“I declare that Adeleke Jackson Nurudeen Ademola of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected,” Ogundipe said.
Recall that four years ago, Adeleke was already coasting home to victory when INEC in controversial circumstances declared the election “inconclusive” and ordered a re-run in a few local governments that ultimately tilted victory to Oyetola and the APC. But this time around, Adeleke is not to be denied.
