Two weeks before the February 25 Nigeria presidential election, the presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, has again topped the scale in a fresh poll conducted by Bloomberg.
The former Governor of Anambra State, was the preferred choice of the majority of the respondents.
Obi scored 66 per cent of the 93 per cent of respondents who said thy had decided how to vote to finish ahead of his All Progressive Congress, APC, counterpart, Bola Ahmed Tinubu; and the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
While Tinubu trained with 18 per cent, Atiku came a distant third with 10 per cent.
The poll, conducted by Premise Data Corp for Bloomberg News, between January 26 and February 4, was released on Friday.
Part of the result obtained by Ikengaonline read: “San Francisco-based Premise polled 2,384 Nigerians from Jan. 26 to Feb. 4 via a smartphone app. Submissions were selected from quotas developed by age, gender, and location across the country’s six geopolitical zones, the company said.
“Results were then weighted against the original quotas to ensure national representation,” Bloomberg News said.
The Labour Party candidate who has been recording swelling support across the country, has been sweeping most pre-election presidential polls conducted in the recent times by reputable pollsters.
Other parties including the ruling APC have always contested the credibility of such polls.
Obi had emerged as the leading candidate with 21 percent of the votes in an NOI poll conducted in September 2022.
Tinubu and Atiku respectively came second with 13 percent of votes each, while Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP came distant fourth with three percent.
Obi’s candidacy enjoys the support of youths and progressives of divergent religious and ethnic backgrounds from across the country.
