Ebonyi State Government has directed all public and private primary and secondary schools to observe Public Holidays effective 22nd February 2023, and resume on 15th March 2023.
This was the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held at the Centenary City New Government House Abakaliki.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Uchenna Orji, made the disclosure in Abakaliki after the meeting.
He said: “Exco approved the request of the memo presented by the State Commissioner For Education and directed that for the sake of the civic rights of the students and security considerations, all public and private primary and secondary schools, shall observe Public Holidays effective 22nd February, 2023 from 4pm and resume by 8 am of 15th March, 2023.
The Commissioner said that the Council approved that the school academic session be extended by Three weeks to make up for the lost academic period.
Mr Orji said that the Executive Council received a Report on the recently concluded State International Airport recruitment exercise from the Principal Secretary to Governor Umahi.
“Exco noted that each Local Government Area was equally represented in the recruitment exercise and that 30% of the job opportunities in the junior cadre of Aviation Security and Aerodrome Rescue Firefighting System in the airport was allocated to the host Local Government Areas.”
“Exco commended Governor Umahi for ensuring equity and equality in the distribution of job and empowerment opportunities in the State and directed that the successful candidates be made to undergo training immediately thereafter be given appointment letters.
“Exco received a report of the Bureau of Public Procurement on bids opening and evaluation for lease for 99 years in respect of the following Infrastructure of Government.
“Exco noted that the Bureau had advertised for the bidding of the facilities viz Camp David Games House and Fountain Pitch Lot 1, 4 Nos Cassava and Starch Processing plants building and equipment located at the 3 senatorial zones Lot 2-5, Commercial building at Akanu Ibiam Junction, Abakaliki.”
On the report of the Commission of Enquiry, Peace and Reconciliation of Ekolli and Amaoso crisis, Mr Orji said that the attack in Amaoso is an isolated incident targeted at the Ebubeagu official from Amaoso and this may have been caused by the miscreants who feel that Ebubeagu should be kept-off the road.
“The committee therefore suggested that the masterminds of the heinous crime against the Ebubeagu official at Amaoso be fished out and punished according to law,” he said.
