The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, Monday led from the front in Abuja, as the party protested over the conduct of the presidential election of February 25, by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Joining the PDP flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, in the protest were the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu; the Vice Presidential Candidate of the party and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; amongst other leaders of the party.
The protesters decked in black attires blocked the INEC headquarters’ entrance.
Other party leaders who also participated in the protest include the Chairman of Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel; the Director General of PCC and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.
Ikengaonline reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, was declared winner of the poll by INEC with total 8,794,726 votes and further declared President-Elect.
According to the controversial results announced by INEC, Atiku scored 6,984,520 votes to come second, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), came in third with 6,101,533.
It was gathered that the protesters converged at the Legacy House, the PDP campaign office in Maitama, from where they marched to INEC headquarters.
The PDP protesters carried several placards with different inscriptions condemning the processes INEC carried out during the presidential election. “INEC is an enemy of Nigerian democracy,” read one of the placards.
At the INEC, headquarters the PDP leaders handed their protest letter to Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner for Publicity and Voter Education.
