Hope beamed as a team of professors from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, Wednesday, arrived Gregory University Uturu for the third Clinical accreditation visit of the 5th MBBS programme of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Gregory University Uturu is one of the up-coming private universities in the South-East offering courses in major sciences and professional course of high demand with limited space in available public institutions in the zone.
The 14-member MDCN team, comprising accomplished professionals and experts from various domains within the field of medicine, was led by the Registrar of the Council, T.A. B Sanusi.
“Their arrival marked the beginning of a comprehensive assessment process to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of our medical programme to ensure that it meets the highest standards of excellence and quality,” the Vice Chancellor, Professor Augustine Uwakwe, said.
The Vice Chancellor expressed his gratitude to the council for its commitment, expertise, guidance and dedication towards maintaining the highest standards in medical education.
He emphasised the importance of the accreditation visit in ensuring that the University graduates its first medical scholars as well as produce competent and well-trained medical professionals who can provide quality healthcare services to Nigerians.
Professor Uwakwe further assured the team of the university’s commitment to providing quality and comprehensive medical education and pledged the full cooperation of the college and staff during the accreditation process.
“This visit carries immense importance, as it serves as a crucial milestone in the university’s journey towards maintaining the highest standards of quality and excellence and overall adherence to the MDCN’s stringent accreditation standards,” he added.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Ebubechi Iwu, the university management is optimistic that the Medical College of the institution would be granted full accreditation at the end of the exercise.
