The Anambra Truth, Justice, and Peace Commission has called for the submission of memoranda from persons and organisations in various communities in the state, ahead of its proposed public hearing.
This was contained in a statement signed by the secretary of the commission, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and copied to all the presidents- general of town unions in the state.
The statement directed that the memoranda should reach the Secretary c/o Mrs. China Obinyeluaku, office of the Secretary to the State Government, Government House, Awka, on or before the close of work on 12th June 12, or tipc.anambragov@gmail.com.
It also directed that the memoranda should be sealed and addressed to the Secretary, Anambra State Truth, Justice, and Peace Commission, and shall be 20 copies and submitted to the same office.
Ikengaonline reported that 17-person Justice and Peace Commission was set up by Governor Chukwuma Soludo on April 6, 2022, to identify the remote and immediate causes of the agitations, restiveness, violence, and struggle in the South East since 1999.
Other terms of reference of the commission include documenting victims, circumstances of death, brutality, and incarceration; identifying stakeholders and groups who have played critical roles in the agitation and conflicts, their roles, capabilities, and demands.
The Prof. Chidi Odinkalu-led commission was also given the task to address any other issue(s) that may be germane to unraveling the extent of the crises and charting the road-map to the future and making recommendations for sustainable peace and security in Anambra State and the South-East.
