The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Friday submitted evidence of discharge certificate forgery against Governor Peter Mbah at the Enugu State Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Enugu.
The appearance of NYSC followed a subpoena by the tribunal in a case brought before it by Chijioke Edeoga, governorship candidate of the Labour Party, in March 18 election in the state.
Edeoga had sought the disqualification of Peter Mbah of PDP in the same election on the grounds that he forged his NYSC certificate which he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
At the commencement of trial by 4pm on Friday the NYSC which was represented by, Mr. Abdul Muhammad tendered all the evidences before the court.
After some objections by PDP and Mr. Peter Mba’s lawyers, the documents were admitted by the tribunal as exhibits.
The NYSC representative was then ushered into the witness box for cross-examination.
After a long argument, another witness who represented Omah & co. Mrs. Ijeoma, submmited a disclaimer from NYSC and the letter which her organisation submmited to the NYSC with other necessary documents as regards their enquiry on the authenticity of Mr. Peter Mba’s NYSC certificate.
After several objections by the PDP and INEC lawyers, the evidences were admitted by the tribunal as exhibits and she was ushered into the witness box as well.
All the evidences against Mr. Peter Mba and INEC on certificate forgery were all admitted by the tribunal.
Thereafter, the tribunal suggested reconvening on Saturday July 8 by 4pm but the Labour Party lawyers objected by arguing that such time was not holy enough to entertain their witnesses due to time frame and suggested Tuesday July, 11, 2023 for continuation.
