Details have emerged why the embattled Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Friday Agbom, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Agbom announced his defection on Sunday when he led some stakeholders of the party in the local government on a courtesy visit to the member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Chinedu Ogah, in his Abakaliki home.
Announcing their defection, Mr Agbom cited good governance of Governor Francis Nwifuru.
But according to sources, Mr Agbom’s defection followed his suspension by the ward executives of PDP who passed a vote of no confidence on him for alleged anti-party activities.
In a letter of suspension dated 28/3/2023 signed by Chibueze Nwakpa and Roseline Nwokah, Chairman and Secretary of Ikwuator Idembia Ward of the PDP respectively and sighted by our Reporter, the party said that it has lost confidence in Agbom.
They accused him and two others namely Mr. Nwoye Ogechi Samuel, Ifeanyi Nelson Nworie of open participation in and support for the APC in Ikwuator Idembia ward.
“That vote of no confidence is hereby passed on Barr Friday Agbon, Nwoye Ogechi Samuel and Ifeanyi Nelson Nwoye and accordingly are hereby suspended indefinitely as members of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“That their suspension is with immediate effect regarding their anti-party activities and such other conduct breaching public peace and unity of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ikwuator Idembia ward and across the LGA,” they said.
The PDP ward Executives further stated that while their suspension subsists, the membership of the Chairman and the other two members remain suspended.
They called on party members in the ward, Ezza South LGA and the state to withdraw all party affiliations with the trio.
Agbom during the visit to Mr Ogah congratulated the Lawmaker on his landslide victory for the second time as the member representing the Federal Constituency.
He noted that they decided to align with the ruling party, APC having witnessed the massive development in Ebonyi State by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and the President of the country, Bola Tinubu.
Responding, Ogah thanked thanked the decampees for taking the decision to join the APC which he described as a moving train and largest party in Africa.
“This is just internal reception for these new members and we shall be welcoming them officially to the party at the Onueke office”
“You have taken the right decision because this is your party and the right party that has contributed in no small measures to the development of the state and Nigeria”
“The party needs young people who would assist to build and develop a formidable society and also work for the progress and success of the party at all levels”
“This government is for the youth and this is the time for Nigeria to have the right leadership. Leaders of the government are looking forward for good talent and that is what we need in the country,” he stated.
Others present during the visit included the commissioner for Peace, Boarder and Conflict Resolution, Dr Ilang Donatus, the Director General Chinedu Ogah Campaign Team, Chinedu Nwali.
