Acobarry Charity Foundation, a non-governmental charity organisation, has offered scholarships to indigent youths of Ndiakwu community in Otolo, Nnewi Local Government Area, Anambra State.
Ikengaonline reports that the Foundation wrote to the town’s leadership, informing them of its intention to sponsor youths of the community oversea to obtain their higher degrees.
The letter dated May 26, 2023, and signed by the Management read partly: “The Board of Directors of Acobarry Foundation, after its meeting on 26th May 2023, wishes to write and officially inform you and the entire Ndiakwu Community of its desire to award a twenty million naira only (N20,000,000.00) worth of scholarship to the residents of Ndiakwu Community, who are degree holders and are interested in doing their Master’s Degree programme the United Kingdom (U.K).
“Any interested Ndiakwu Community resident is by this publication advised to visit the Ndiakwu Community Town Hall and pick up the application form (the application form is free).
“The community leadership is expected to forward to us within the next fourteen days (Two weeks), the names and credentials of Five most qualified applicants who possess a minimum of Second Class (Upper Division) Degree.
“The overall winner will emerge through a lucky dip that will be conducted by the scholarship scheme selection committee headed by Nonso Ejiogu.”
Responding through a letter signed by its National Chairman and Secretary, the community leadership expressed their profound gratitude to the Chairman of Acobarry Foundation and sent names of six students found deserving of the scholarship award.
However, out of the six persons, only one of them will be selected for the N20 million Naira Acobarry Foundation scholarship for a Masters’s degree in the UK.
The founder and chairman of the Foundation, Hon. Onyedika Chukwuma, who is based abroad and who is an illustrious son of the said community, told Ikengaonline that the scholarship would be based on an offer of admission by a university in the UK.
“Out of these numbers, the first person the university will give admission based on their good result, we would pay the tuition fees immediately and request for his/her visa.”
He disclosed that the board chose to start the scholarship from his hometown in accordance with the principle of “Charity Begins at Home.”
He said that the scheme was aimed at ensuring that youths of the community are well-educated. He said it was also targeted at promoting access to quality education for indigent students in the town and beyond.
Ikengaonline reports that this initiative is in line with the ‘Think-Home’ yearnings of the Anambra State government for its indigenes in the diaspora to contribute their quota towards the building and development of the state.
