35 families of dead, wounded, police personnel in Abia receive N27. 8 m

    By Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia

Families of 35 police personnel who were wounded or killed in active duty in Abia State, Tuesday, received N27, 879,659.56 cheques from the Nigeria Police Public

Disbursing the cheques to the affected families, on behalf of the Acting Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police Abia State, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, said that the Police were saddened over the tragic loss of the affected personnel in line of duty.

He also expressed deep concern over the plight of the affected families following the loss of their beloved ones.

The CP said that the cheques were meant to help cater for the financial burdens associated with the loss of their beloved ones.

He, however, urged them not to lose hope, assuring that the Command would not abandon them.

“The brave men who dedicated their lives to serving and protecting our communities, will not be forgotten”.

He said Police had the moral duty to support and stand behind the families of their fallen heroes and heroines.

The CP re-stated the commitment of the Police to to the welfare of their personnel, and protection of lives and property despite the challenges.

” The memories of the fallen heroes will forever remain in our hearts, and we will honour their legacy by continuing to serve and protect our communities with utmost dedication and commitment” .

The Officer in charge of Police Insurance, while responding to an inquiry, said 32 personnel were dead while three were wounded.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Amarachi Nkwachukwu, commended the Police Authorities for identifying with them.

Top Officers of the Command were present during the ceremony at the State Police Headquarters Umuahia.
