Ugo Nosiri, Owerri
The people of Owalla Uratta in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State have accused the state government of forcefully taking over their ancestral farm lands for RUGA settlement.
The people in a peaceful protest to register their complaints displayed placards with different inscriptions, calling on the state governor to reconsider his action concerning their farmlands being taken without any compensation or agreement reached.
One of them, who gave his name as Elder Vincent Ahuekwe stated that he has never witnessed such a heartless invasion in his entire life.
“How can I explain that my entire lands and ancestral domains have been taken by force by some gun and trigger crazy criminals right before me and the defenseless people of Owalla Uratta community? This is beyond comprehension,” he lamented.
A youth from the community who spoke in anonymity, disclosed that their community has been taken over by security men guarding the invaders. He said “this is outright RUGA in Imo State. Forceful Invasion of Igbo lands has begun at last, and we are ready to die for our ancestral lands.”
The youth appealed to the entire Igbo global community to come to their rescue, noting that the fight is not for Owalla Uratta alone.
“The entire Igbo nation must come for the soul of Igboland. After Owala Uratta, they will certainly go for another community in Igboland. They are about bringing the ruthless killings of Ndigbo in Orlu and Okigwe into Owerri zone. They have begun from Owalla Uratta,” he said.
