The Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has warned those behind insecurity in the South-East to desist from their activities to avoid turning the region to a theatre of war.
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of the Igbo group, gave the warning on Thursday, when he was featured as a Keynote Speaker of the August edition of the monthly Ikengaonline town-hall meeting themed: “A New Era for Ohanaeze: Navigating Challenges, Embracing Potentials.”
According to him, “security has deteriorated in our land. As a father, I’m using this medium to appeal to those who claim they are working for Nnamdi Kanu to turn around from their ways and change for good.
He said the failure of that might one day attract federal military presence, which would have ugly consequences on the people and those not involved as victims.
Speaking during the virtual meeting, Dr. Iwuanyanwu warned that Ohanaeze will not fold its hands and entertain the region being turned into another battleground.
He urged the agitators to surrender and assured to fully reintegrate them into the society.
“I don’t want our area to be turned into a battleground for the second time. I want them to surrender and my assurance is that they would fully be reintegrated into the society,” he said.
Speaking further, Iwuanyanwu said Ohanaeze has made the Federal Government aware that Nnamdi Kanu committed no offense to warrant his continued detention by the DSS.
According to him, “We have taken our position that we want Kanu released because nobody has told us any offense that he committed. Kanu’s life was threatened and he fled for his dear life. There is no human being that his life is threatened and he would not run away.
“We waited for the law to take its cause and after trials, the judges said he should be released,” he said.
