Enugu State Government has promised Rangers International FC that Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium will be ready to host the club’s 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) home matches.
A statement issued by Rangers FC media officer, Norbert Okolie said that the promise was made by the State Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Llyod Ekweremadu, when seeing the team off to their close camping in Awka.
It would be recalled that the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu has been under renovation since 2021, forcing Rangers to prosecute their home matches in Awka, Ananbra State in the past two seasons.
Ekweremadu said going by the government’s arrangement with the contractor handling the rehabilitation of the stadium’s playing turf, the team shall play most of its home games at the stadium.
He commended the management, coaches, players, and other backroom staff of the club for all they have been doing to ensure that the club maintained its top flight status.
Ekweremadu also praised the club for aspiring to enhance its marketability in the corporate world.
Regarding the club welfare, the commissioner believed that what the club’s General Manager (GM) Amobi Ezeaku had come up with would take the club to the level it rightly belongs in a short while.
He noted that a number of partners and sponsors would be unveiled to ensure that Rangers was truly celebrated as an international brand.
In a brief remark, the GM Ezeaku, welcomed the commissioner on behalf of the club management.
He appealed for support from the ministry to help him overcome some challenges being faced in the running of the club.
