Police in Anambra have announced that 33 suspects have been arraigned for their alleged involvement in cultism and other cult-related offenses in Anambra State.
According to the Police, charges against the suspected criminals followed the recent crackdown order by the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Aderemi Adeoye.
Making this known to Journalists in the state, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects were arraigned in two batches of 9 and 24.
“They were charged with membership of unlawful societies; unlawful possession of firearms; unlawful possession and use of hard drugs and other psychotropic substances.”
According to the statement, several other suspects are still being held in custody, while investigation into various murders committed by suspected cultists is still ongoing.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police had reiterated his stand that there would be no sacred cow in the new offensive against cultists.
He said the Command would never compromise the ongoing investigation and anyone indicted by evidence would be brought to book no matter how highly placed.
