Nigeria’s first indigenous Chartered Accountant, Akintola Williams, is dead.
He died at his Lagos residence, Monday, at the ripe age of 104 years according to a family source which did not want to be disclosed.
Williams was born in 1919.
He also attended the prestigious Yaba Higher College on a UAC scholarship, from where he obtained a Diploma in Commerce.
In 1944, he travelled to England where he studied at the University of London. Studying Banking and Finance, and graduated in 1946 with a Bachelor of Commerce.
He continued his studies and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in England in 1949.
In 1952, he founded the first indigenous chartered accounting firm in Africa, Akintola Williams & Co, in Lagos.
