Gunmen suspected to be cultists have shot dead a Year-One student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State.
Ikengaonline learned that the incident took place Thursday evening, when cultists chasing keke driver mistakenly gunned down the student who was later identified as Uche Chigozirim.
A source said the victim was a 100 level Student of the faculty of Health Sciences.
Another source said the suspected cultists were chasing a yet-to-be-identified tricycle operator, but missed a target and shot dead the student when they opened fire on the tricyclist, who dodged many of the bullets fired at him.
“Miss Chigozirim was hit by a stray bullet at Miracle Junction.
“Please help us and let the world know the insecurity situation we are facing here in Ifite area of UNIZIK, and the state government is not doing anything to improve the situation. It’s now a culture we are almost used to,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said patrol and surveillance have been intensified in the area.
Ikenga called on the eyewitnesses to furnish the police with relevant information to help the Command in its investigation.
He reassured that the Command would not relent in waging war again cultism and other forms of crimes in the State.
