The Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate for the November 11 off cycle election in Imo State, Dr Kemdi Opara, has called on stakeholders in the state to honor the original Imo Charter of Equity signed by the elders of the state on the 9th of June 1991 “in the interest of equity, fairness, justice and democratic sustainability.”
Opara noted that the charter of equity which resolved that the office of the Executive Governor of the State should be rotational among the three senatorial districts, had the signatories of notable Imo elders from all three senatorial zones appended on it.
Stressing the need to strictly adhere to the zoning arrangement, the YPP candidate insisted that the zoning favors the Owerri zone to produce the next Governor of the State, in the forthcoming election.
He, therefore, called on Ndi Imo and all stakeholders to collectively throw their weight behind him and vote for him, noting that he is the most credible and competent Governorship Candidate from the zone that can be trusted to run an all-inclusive, responsible and transparent government.
Dr. Opara maintained that denying the Owerri zone the opportunity to ascend to the position of Imo Governor in the November 11th polls, will run foul of equity, justice, fairness and will strongly suggest deliberate marginalisation of the zone.
He promised to be a responsible leader that would serve the greatest good of Ndi Imo and always place their common interest above parochialism, maintaining that Imo will always come first.
