The Federal Government has reviewed salaries of both the academic and non-academic staff in all federal tertiary institutions.
National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission, approved the payment of a new salary structure with arrears to be paid from January 2023.
According to the new wage structure, the entire workforce will enjoy 25% increase while those in the professorial cadre will receive 35% increase.
Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, had earlier written to the Chairman of the NSIWC, Ekpo Nta, to demand the status of the staff of federal tertiary institutions.
The Minister has been under pressure to review the salary of staff of tertiary institutions especially in view of the biting economic hardship.
He is also being pressured to effect the payment of the eight months unpaid wages of lecturers during last year’s prolonged strike.
It is, however, not clear if any action had been taken concerning the arrears of salary during the eight months of strike.
