Nteje community in Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State, has launched a war against drug abuse and a committee that will champion the course was inaugurated by the community.
The event held at Nteje during the weekend and attracted law enforcement agencies including the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Police and stakeholders in the community.
Speaking on the development, the President General of Nteje community, Dr. Nnamdi Ilodiuba, said that the target is to rescue their community by ensuring that drug peddlers have no place in Nteje.
According to him, drugs have done great harm to the society as it is losing a good number of youths to drugs while many have abandoned school and their careers due to drug influence noting that the situation calls for a collective action to reclaim the youths and the community, expressing their readiness to collaborate with all security operatives to achieve the objective.
Dr. Ilodiuba called on the youths of Nteje to meaningfully engage themselves and promised that the community will help to train and empower any youth who will turn away from drug intake.
He warned those dealing on drugs in Nteje to leave the community themselves or be ready to face the wrath of the law once apprehended even as he called on other communities around them to key into the initiative for a more peaceful and progressive society.
While emphasizing that drug kills and destroys one’s future, Dr. Ilodiuba called on Nteje youths and youths of Anambra State to carve out a future for themselves by being committed to a decent life.
