Incumbent Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has been declared the winner of the state’s off-season governorship election held last Saturday.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate who is currently serving his first term in office, polled a total of 175,196 votes to emerge winner of the contest.
He was declared winner by the Returning Officer, Prof Faruq Kuta, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Of Technology, Minna.
Former governor, and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timipre Sylva, scored 110,108 votes to come second while the Labour Party polled 905 votes to clinch the third position.
Diri had won in five out of the eight local government areas in the state on Sunday, and APC won in one before collation on Brass and Southern Ijaw LGAs was postponed till Monday.
